“As the Director of Engineering (my direct supervisor) at Revolution Lighting Technologies, Todd showed a rare combination of three main areas: engineering knowledge, interpersonal intelligence, and organizational leadership.

With respect to his engineering knowledge, I have worked for several managers besides Todd, and I can wholeheartedly say that his knowledge of both theoretical and hands-on engineering is second to none. He not only understands the concepts of mechanical, electrical, AND manufacturing engineering, but he is also eager to offer direct support in testing and evaluation, assembly, and manufacturing setup/optimization of products. What's more, his ability to demonstrate procedures and concepts in a way that is not demeaning to novices is also rare. He taught me a great deal about how products are designed, built, tested, and distributed, and he never made me feel subordinate while doing so.

His ability to relate to each person individually is a key to his success. He welcomes questions and concerns, and always approaches them in an open way. He expressed genuine interest in my work and personal lives, and was willing to listen when I needed to talk with somebody and get advice. This is a unique and extremely rare attitude that a manager can project, and it is one I have not found since. I believe it to be a strong asset, and the bond created between us through genuine conversation is the main reason I enjoyed working at Revolution. We became a very productive team because we were able to talk openly about any problems we encountered, and then we were able to solve them quickly and efficiently.

Finally, Todd has a keen ability to organize tasks for a group of often independent people. At the peak, I recall him managing and disseminating task for myself, two test engineers, one compliance engineer, one technical writer, and a manufacturing engineer. His mastery of all engineering disciplines is a key to this, because he understood how problems should be solved according to each discipline; and because he knew each team member through open communication, he was able to organize the tasks by the strengths of each team member.

In conclusion, Todd is an exceptional engineer, manager, and friend. His abilities to relate to his team members, learn and retain information, and manage whole projects is unparalleled. I have absolutely no reservations about recommending Todd Peterson for any job.”
